Well, the spring plants were planted a bit too late. Just then they wanted to provide, it got too hot! The giant cabbage rotted for some reason.. Guess I have to look that up. This is the first year I planted Carrots OR potatoes... The carrots were a great success, and the potatoes really worked too! gotta' try that again. Here is Rockwell with some Carrots and Potatoes.
How the potatoes grow was pretty amazing.. I have never seen them come out of the ground before. I didn't realize they were so numerous and easy to dig up.

The onions did not get very big before the tops fell over. Guess I have to look that up too.
The spinach did not thrive AT ALL. I take it they need fertilizer even to grow. I did not get a leaf of spinach out of the whole bunch.

Joy! Spring planting! The early crops go in today! yay!

We planted some lettuce and some broccoli and some spinach, and some cabbage that is supposed to grow to be huge.

This is really R's first garden. He was too young last year. He really took care and did a very fine job planting the Romain lettuce.. Now lets see if he eats it when it grows!! (He will, he likes his vegetables.. Its M that wont eat anything green..)

Pat it down now...

I left H to her own devices. She is old enough now to do it by herself. She planted all of the Bonnie butter crunch lettuce.

M wanted to plant flowers... She just wants nothing to do with vegetables! To be fair, she likes picking them.. And tries the ones she picks.

Here is the final product. Click on the picture for a short video, less than 1 meg)

Interestingly enough, I have skipped garden blogging on odd years of the calendar.. Strange.. ;)
We tilled a nice plot this year. H and R just helped me plant carrots and beets today! The first time I have tried either one! We will let you know how they turn out, and I will get going on some early pictures too. A toast to 2006! May this be a fine gardening year!

Notice the cell phone pic on the elser blog page... M is eating some of the corn raw off the cob out of our sisters garden! It is sweet even like that. The beans did not do well at all, I will have plant way more than that next time. The Squash is doing well.
Why is it my garden posts always trail off as the garden grows? At this rate I'm never gonna remember how the garden does in past years! Ill update with pictures soon.

The squash is coming up pretty quickly. The corn is growing like a weed, but the beans are taking their sweet time. You can see one of the bean plants start to climb onto the corn in this picture though. I really should have planted three times as many beans. I will remember that next time.
