Ok, here is a list of the plants that we grew from seed this year, listed by seed company

From Lake Valley Seed: Cucumber- Homade Pickles, Cucumber- National pickling, Kentucky Blue Pole bean, Poblano Ranchero Pepper.

from Ferry Morse: Crimson sweet watermelon, Early white bush scallop squash, Bird house gourd, Early white Vienna kohlrabi, Roma VFN Tomato, Decicco broccoli, Copenhagen market early cabbage.

From Heirloom Seeds: Black Brandywine tomato, Pink brandywine tomato, German Gold Tomato, Russian Black Tomato, Box Car Willie Tomato, Large Cherry red Tomato, Roma Tomato, Provider Bush Bean, Italian Giant Pepper, Pepperocini Pepper, Old Homestead Pole Bean.

If you go to the heirloom seeds page you can look up the "history" of the seeds, and when they were popular and such (for instance some are winners af various state fairs)

As for a status update, here is the current picture of the garden. I did not mulch the kohlrabi yet, because I planted a bunch from seed in that area. Actually, everything is growing really well. the only thing that did not do so well was the Eggplant, only one of them survived... Thats all for now.

Well.
A watched Garden does not Grow! I swear, I have seen no action since I planted everything. Oh well. The Rose bush however is completly full of blooms, and so heavy that it broke the trellis I had it on...
all for now...E

Here is something that most of you dont have to deal with in the spring...
BAMBOO. This stuff is invasive, and grows overnight. Fortunatly, it is tender and (somewhat) easy to pull up when it is young. (the rabbits like to eat it..) But it grows ANYWHERE IT PLEASES!! It will come out of the ground 30 feet or more away from the closest plant. They come out of the ground so fast, that there are lumps of dirt leaning against them, as if you were underground, and stuck a stick through hard dirt... strange stuff. (they spread rizomes out 1 to 3 inches below the ground, you can controll them by putting a metal or cement barrier around them)

Also, I suppose it is only fair to give the Wifes herb garden equal time.. It is just starting, and will look really nice when things start growing... I'll have to ask her what all is in there. It appears she is cheating, putting a couple flowers in there...

And, for a parting note, We did not dig up ALL the ancient rose bushes around here... here is one that is also probably pushing 100 years, Kathi figured out the name, but, again, I dont know what it is!!

I promise to get all the names of the roses and the herbs and my vegitables all in one post so it is easily refrenced... Thanks for visiting, see you soon.

Only SLIGHTLY Garden related... The neighbor came over. (The one that is in her 70's and grew up in our house...) To admire the trellis I mounted to the side of the house. Wife said "I dont know what I am going to grow on it though..." and the nieghbor said "what about that rose that used to be near where your garbage cans are?"

Well.

Wife- " We got rid of that rose bush when we moved in...."

Nieghbor - "Oh. Thats too bad. That rose bush was there when we moved in here in 1930".

OUch. Double ouch, really. Because we got rid of it when Dale was visiting from Belize, and he told us to just move it, not to get rid of it....

Its all your fault, Dale, you should have been more forceful!!! :)

talk with you soon...

Well, this weekend went relatively well. My daughter and I planted all of the plants, Tomatoes (a list of the varieties forthcoming, Sweet bananna peppers, giant bell pepers, 1 variety of hot pepper, Kolorabi (My daughter and I think that is a fitting name for such a strange looking plant), Eggplant, Pole beans (provider), Bush beans. We also planted (in a different area) Watermelon and bird house squash. Not to mention we had a couple of voulenteer pumpkin come up next to the compost pile, that we decided to let grow...
I am going to try sme HTML here for the first time, so bear with me...

Well, is there a picture above? I guess I will see in a moment....
As you (might be able to) can see, I have not spread the hay mulch all around yet, but the water timer provided by Hector is working QUITE well. (you were right Hector, the batteries last exactly one season...) I have the water go on for a half hour in the morning, and so far that seems like more than enough. I might bump that up as the plants start to grow.
well, enough for now, wee you soon...Oh, Yah. Here is the daughter messing with a worm. I hope she doesn't grow out of the stage where she is willing to do that, too soon!

Hello Everyone!
I have decided to put my Garden Diary up on the open web, for all to see...
I figure this is a good time to start, considering tomorrow is planting day. All the little plants are in their little pots, waiting to be put into the ground. This year I'm planting 9, countem, NINE different types of Tomatoes. I guess I got carried away when I got that Heirloom seed catalog... Can you post pictures here? I hope so..
We'll see how it goes. I'll keep it short and sweet for now, and we will see how this weekend goes..
